Across the Generations

by Ann Henrich

Tonight at the Lenten service my feeling of closeness to God and family was strengthened in yet another wonderful way. A feeling of deep joy — manifested with tears — was felt as the three generations of our family were united in the sacrament of Holy Communion. This has been a dream of mine for years and last Wednesday this dream came to fruition.

What a wonderful closeness to God as our family shared in this meal together. God is good and his gift of the Sacrament takes us beyond the mundane into a special place. Praise the Lord!

During Lent 2011, we are encouraging the St. Philip the Deacon community to reflect on the Sacrament of Holy Communion — recalling early memories, describing memorable celebrations of Communion, or reflecting on how Communion informs daily life. This post is part of that series. We invite your reflections about Communion, as well. If you would like to submit something for this series, please send it to Pastor Cheryl Mathison at cmathison@spdlc.org.
